"Nigeria Should Quit Trying To Cover The Massacre At The Lekki Tollgate" - Amnesty International USA.
Country Director of Amnesty International Osai Ojigho has given a stern warning to the Nigerian authority via a lengthy tweet made on the official twitter handle of amnesty international USA.
The director further went on to call on the Nigerian authorities to stop trying hard to cover up the incident which occurred at the lekki toll gate. In his words "The Nigerian authorites should stop trying to cover the massacre that happened at the lekki tollgate".
The director also gave his words "“What happened at Lekki Toll Gate has all the traits of the Nigerian authorities’ pattern of a cover-up whenever their defense and security forces commit unlawful killings. “One week on, the Nigerian authorities still have many questions to answer: who ordered the use of lethal force on peaceful protesters?, "Why were CCTV cameras on the scene dismantled in advance? And who ordered electricity being turned off minutes before the military opened fire on protesters?, “The initial denials of the involvement of soldiers in the shooting was followed by the shameful denial of the loss of lives as a result of the military’s attack against the protests. "Many people are still missing since the day of the incident, and credible evidence shows that the military prevented ambulances from reaching the severely injured in the aftermath.”
It is worthy to also note that amnesty's International crisis response experts investigated and verified media footage of the massacre and also confirmed that the nigerian military forces were also present at the lekki toll gate when the shooting started.
Amnesty international has been monitoring the activities of the nigerian government since the #EndSars protest started on october 8, 2020.
The #EndSars protest was a campaign by nigerians who looked forward to end police brutality and Extortion from the Special Anti Robbery Squad known to be SARS.
A total of 56 youths have been confirmed dead since the beginning of the protest across the country.
